Getting started with your web hosting
This guide takes you through the first things to do once your hosting has been created. Your username and password are in the welcome email. If you cannot find it, let us know and we will send it again.
1. Log in to the control panel
The control panel is at web.ovit.cloud. You can also log in straight from the client area: open the hosting service under My Products & Services and click Log in to the control panel.
Everything you need is in the menu on the left.
2. Change your password
Change the password in the client area: open the hosting service and choose Change Password. The control panel gets the new password at the same time, and the login button in the client area keeps working. If you change the password inside the control panel, the button stops logging you in.
3. Publish your website
- WordPress: choose Manage Web Apps, open the Available Web Apps tab, pick WordPress and follow the wizard. The wizard can create the database for you.
- Your own files: choose File Manager and upload the files to the
public_htmlfolder. The file manager handles both single files and zip archives. The front page must be calledindex.htmlorindex.php. - Databases: choose Edit Databases to create MySQL databases for your own applications.
Delete our temporary front page (index.html in public_html) when your own site is ready. Otherwise it may be shown instead of yours.
4. Create email accounts
Choose Edit Users and add a user for each mailbox. The username is the full email address. Forwarders and aliases are under Mail Options → Edit Mail Aliases. You read your email at mail.ovit.cloud. See also How to create email accounts and How to set up IMAP and SMTP in your email app.
5. Connect your domain
If you bought the domain together with the hosting, this is already done. Otherwise, you have two options:
- Name servers (recommended): set the name servers at your registrar to
ns1.ovit.cloudandns2.ovit.cloud. We then set up DNS for your website and email, and you edit the records yourself under DNS Settings → DNS Records. - Keep your DNS where it is: add an A record for
@andwwwpointing to136.148.132.11, and ideally an AAAA record pointing to2a13:7f80:2::11.
6. Email on your own domain: MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC
If your domain uses our name servers, we add MX, SPF and DKIM for you. If you use another DNS provider and want your email hosted with us, add these records there:
- MX for
@:mail.ovit.cloud, priority 10 - SPF, TXT for
@:v=spf1 include:_spf.ovit.cloud ~all - DKIM, TXT for
202501._domainkey: copy the value from DNS Settings → DNS Records in the control panel - DMARC (recommended), TXT for
_dmarc:v=DMARC1; p=none
If your email is hosted elsewhere, leave the MX record as it is. Add include:_spf.ovit.cloud to your existing SPF record so email from your website does not end up as spam, and let us know. We will then turn off the email part of the hosting for your domain, so email your website sends to your own address reaches the mailbox you actually use.
7. SSL and https
We issue and renew SSL certificates automatically once the domain points here. See How to set up an SSL certificate if your site does not have https after a day.
8. More domains
To show the same website on an extra domain, add it as an alias under Create Alias Server. How many domains you can add depends on your package. Ask us if you are unsure.
Backups and help
We back up your hosting every night and keep each backup for seven days. If you deleted something by mistake, or you get stuck, open a support ticket. We answer in Norwegian and English.
